Stand with us to help make campus safer
Sexual misconduct is an umbrella term used to incorporate sexual assault, sexual harassment, sexual violence, consent, nonconsensual sexual intercourse, or contact of any kind along with stalking, dating violence, and domestic violence. Sexual misconduct is a type of violence that uses power, control, and/or intimidation to harm another, and it occurs when there is an absence of consent. Consent is a free and clearly given “yes”—not the absence of a “no.” Consent cannot be received when a person is incapacitated by alcohol or drugs.Why is this important?
Sexual misconduct can affect any member of our community, regardless of gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, age, national origin, or ethnicity.
According to RAINN’s website, research has shown the following:
- Among all students, 13 percent experience rape or sexual assault through physical force, violence, or incapacitation.
- Among graduate and professional students, 9.7 percent of females and 2.5 percent of males experience rape or sexual assault through physical force, violence, or incapacitation.
- Among undergraduate students, 26.4 percent of females and 6.8 percent of males experience rape or sexual assault through physical force, violence, or incapacitation.
- Among transgender, genderqueer, and nonconforming college students, 23.1 percent have been sexually assaulted.
These high occurrences make it evident that this issue must be addressed.
We are asking you to stand with us and denounce sexual misconduct on our campus. Take the pledge to make our campus community safer.
I pledge to:
- Model consent and respect boundaries in all my relationships (romantic and non-romantic).
- Be an active agent of change, and to step up and intervene in situations where sexual misconduct may be occurring or where there may be a risk of harm to someone.
- Believe and support survivors and connect them to resources.
